Chamber News Line: New Chamber Member, Beloit Typewriter Open House, Library Update & More!

New Chamber Member
Dr. Thomas J. Owen has become the newest member of the Beloit Area Chamber of Commerce. Dr. Owen recently took over Meyer Chiropractic Center at 119 N. Mill Street in downtown Beloit. Dr. Owen plans to become involved with the Chamber of Commerce and our community.

The Chamber staff is currently working with other prospective new members. For information on joining the Chamber of Commerce call 738-2717.

Beloit Typewriter Exchange Open House
Beloit Typewriter Exchange is hosting an Open House and Book Signing on Friday, May 11th from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Kay Hughes will be there to sign her book "Searching for Stanley" a story about WWII hero Stanley Dwyer who was Missing in Action in Austria in 1944.

Dwyer grew up in the Simpson area.

Library Update
Preparations are being made for moving day. Staff and volunteers with the Port Library are gearing up for their move to the new library at the former Beloit Juvenile Correctional facility.

Construction crews have nearly finished the remodel of the former cafeteria building on the North Campus and the Library will be looking for volunteers to assist with the big move.

They will be moving June 11th through the 15th from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Anyone who can help all or part of a day can contact the Library and complete a volunteer form. For more information contact the Library at 738-3936.

Talking Tombstones Program Adds a Performance
A seventh performance has been added to the schedule for the Talking Tombstones program this year. Marjorie Gentry will portray Florence Kincaid Naismith.

The Talking Tombstones program will be presented May 26th & 27th at 2:00 PM both days at Elwood Cemetery.

The program will be presented under the tent. If the weather turns bad the event will be moved to the North Museum Annex (formerly the American Legion Building).

Tax Service Business Moves
Cheryl Dick has announced her Business & Tax Service office has moved to a new location. Her office will be located at 1112 Independence Avenue, just south of the Solomon Valley Cinema.

Community Wide Garage Sale
The annual Community Wide Garage Sale in Beloit will be held on Saturday, May 5th. According to staff at the Waconda Trader over 60 people have sales included on their map. The locator map was printed in the paper this past Wednesday and can also be found on their website at wacondatrader.com.
