Marvin Gene Cherney, the son of William Cherney and Julia (Havel) Cherney was born June 30, 1928 at Wayne, KS and passed away on December 14, 2012 at the Republic County Hospital, Belleville, KS at the age of 84 years, 5 months, and 14 days.
Marvin grew up and received his education at the local public rural schools near Wayne, KS. On November 14, 1946, he was united in marriage to Thelma Jean Witt and to this union was born: Karen, Marvene, Judy, Gary, and Paul.
The couple made their home in Wayne, KS.
Marvin was a road maintainer for Republic County for many years, retiring in 1993. He also operated Wayne Repair for many years and farmed part-time.
He enjoyed participating in off-road racing and being with family playing cards and dominoes.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Thelma Jean in 2002, daughters: Karen Davison and Marvene Oliver, two grandchildren, a sister Irene Predmore, infant brother Billy Dale, and son-in-law: Dave Sterling.
Marvin is survived by one daughter: Judy Brunkow and husband Delbert of Concordia,KS; two sons: Gary Cherney and wife Lisa of Princeton, KS and Paul Cherney of Concordia, KS; one brother Dale Cherney and wife Karleen of Chester, NE; 12 grandchildren; 8 (and counting) great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at the
Bachelor-Surber Memorial Chapel, with Pastor Emily Meckley, officiating.
Interment will follow at the Union Cemetery, rural Wayne, KS.
Visitation will be from 9AM-9PM on Monday at the funeral home where the family will greet friends from 5PM-7PM on Monday.
Memorials are suggested to Madonna Rehabilitation or Boystown.
