Norman R. Poppe

Norman Rudolf Poppe, the son of Fredrick Poppe and Emma (Peters) Poppe, was born March 13, 1933 at rural Byron, NE and passed away on February 20, 2014 at the Belleville Health Care Center, Belleville, KS at the age of 80 years, 11 months, and 7 days.
Norman grew up in the Chester and Byron area, attending the local schools.
He was confirmed in May of 1946. Norman served with the US Army from 1954 until his honorable discharge in 1956. He received the Good Conduct Medal and served with the reserves until 1962.
On July 17, 1955, he was united in marriage to LaVila Vee Kapperman and to this union was born: Gregory, Sheryl, and Phillip.
Norman farmed in the Republic and Thayer County area since 1956.
He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, the Republic County Cattlemen, the Chester Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years, and the Kansas Rural Fire District.
Norman was preceded in death by his parents, Brother, Alvin Poppe, Sisters, Luella Kapperman and Leora Grafelmann, and Granddaughter, Carissa Poppe.
He is survived by his wife LaVila Poppe of Belleville, KS; children, Greg (Cammie) Poppe of Hastings, NE, Sheryl Stults of Denver, CO, Phillip (Korin) Poppe of Chester, NE; brother Willis (Helen) Poppe of Olsburg, KS; sister Bernice Dutton of Chester, NE; sister-in-law, Betty Poppe of Chester, NE; grandchildren and great grandchildren: Marsha Rosch & Kayline; Molly and Tim Edwards & Nathanial and Morgan; Mikaela and David Krueger & Matthew, Alyvia, and Alexandria; Courtney and Cody Poppe-Weber, Aaron Stults, Caleb Stults, Paul, Zach, Marc, and Samantha Poppe; other relatives, and many friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, February 24, 2014 at the
St. John Lutheran Church, Chester, NE with Pastor Christopher Gerdes, officiating.
Interment will be at the St. John Lutheran Cemetery, rural Chester, NE.
Visitation will be from 1PM until 9 PM on Saturday and Sunday at the Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home, Belleville, KS where the family will greet friends
From 6PM until 8 PM Sunday.
Memorials are suggested to the Church, Chester Volunteer Fire Department, or the St. John Lutheran Cemetery Fund.
