Gerald C. Tallent

Gerald C. Tallent, son of Toley T. Tallent and Vinna B. (Fry) Tallent was born January 11, 1923 at rural Rydal, Kansas and passed away on April 14, 2014 at Belleville, KS at the age of 91 years, 3 months and 3 days.
Gerald attended Springhill School in Republic County and graduated from Belleville High School in 1940. He joined the army and served in the European Theater during World War Two as a cook for the troops. Before and after returning from the war, he worked for area businesses including P.H. Jorgensen Produce and owning a grocery store with his brother Dale. He went to Mini-Max in Smith Center, KS as a supervisor of the egg department where he met his wife Margie.
In 1963, he returned to Belleville and started Hello There Egg Company on his farm north of town. In addition to the processing of eggs, he raised hogs and chickens. He also raised Jersey cattle and lambs for his daughter's and grandson's 4-H projects.
As a civic and community minded individual, Gerald was active in 4-H as club leader for Willowdale 4-H Club of which he was a charter member. He was also a member of the Quality Egg Club, Kiwanis Club and secretary of the Belleville Chamber of Commerce. He served as County Commissioner of Republic County, baliff of the District Court and was a faithful member of the Central Christian Church. He served on the Belleville City Council and the rural Fire Board in Belleville, KS.
In 1996, Gerald lost his wife Margie to cancer. He then married Delores Anderson who also lost her battle to cancer in 2004. He also was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Ronald Tallent.
He will be remembered lovingly by his three daughters, Kandy (John) Eickman of rural Chester, Nebraska, Vonda (Steve) Cooper of Belleville, KS, Pam (Jim) Isaacson of Scandia, KS, nine grandchildren, Rich (Debbie) Isaacson, Troy (Dani) Isaacson, Tim Isaacson, Ami (Shawn) Price, Kade (Jackie) Cooper, Kasey Eickman, Heidi (Clint) Easton, Ryan Isaacson, Jason (Rachael) Eickman, fourteen great grandchildren, Maggie, Jacob, Payton, Leann, Tory and Tarryn Isaacson, Madison, John and Haidyn Price, Andrew and Kinley Cooper, Emily, Logan and Brantly Easton, three sisters, Ruth Everhart of Belleville, KS, Edythe Hammer of Belleville, KS, Dorothy Alkire of Belleville, KS, two brothers, Dale Tallent of Hiawatha, KS, Jerry Tallent of Chanute, KS, nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be held Two PM, Thursday, April 17, 2014, Central Christian Church, Belleville, KS, conducted by, Pastor Mark Imel.
Military Graveside services by William Fleming American Legion Post No. 345, Cuba, KS.
Interment will be in Belleville Cemetery, Belleville, KS.
Memorials may be given to Central Christian Church or Golden Bell Haven.
