MONDAY DECEMBER 22nd MITCHELL COUNTY HOSPITAL HEALTH SYSTEMS BOARD MEETING

The Mitchell County Hospital Health Systems Board of Trustees met last night to review a full agenda of items.  Among them was an informative conference call with Chad Austin, the senior vice president of the Kansas Hospital Association.  Mr. Austin shared information with the Board about how recent government reforms have effected and will continue to effect the way Kansas hospitals are run.

Afterward, CEO Jeremy Armstrong took over to share an Administrative Report with the Board to make them aware of the things he is working on for the Hospital.  Mr. Armstrong told the Board that, mainly due to the Christmas season, the surgeon candidate has not been able to come to Beloit for a second interview.  He also stated that the patient portal seems to be having a welcome reception by the public, especially those patients who are 55 years of age and older.  The Hospital is now offering a bedside service to patients who want to set up their patient portal while they are in the hospital, and this seems to be well received as well.  The recent state-wide Internet outage caused the Hospital to evaluate their back-up plans for when this kind of thing takes place, and Mr. Armstrong they are working on a solution that will help keep information going even when there is an outage of Internet service.  As for the Hospital's strategic planning, they have decided to keep the plan that has already been in place since 2008 in order to keep working on a new strategic plan.  The 2008 plan has had updates since it was first written, and the new plan will not need to be ready for review until October 2015.

Hospital business went on to include the Board's approval of membership in the American Hospital Association and the Kansas Hospital Association.  Other approvals included a resolution to designate Mitchell County Hospital Health Systems as a Level 4 Trauma Center, and in so doing have procedures in place that help hospital staff work efficiently if there were a traumatic event in our area.  A purchase for new anesthesia equipment was also approved in the amount of $26,590.  This equipment will monitor cardiac output of a patient while under anesthesia and is vital to the care of a patient in critical care.  The Board also approved a room alert door lock system for the nursing home in the amount of $18,062.33 as a replacement for the current system.

Finally the Board recognized employee service awards for this month for Dee Daugherty for 5 years in the Residential Care Center, Emily Trent for 5 years in the Special Care Unit, Lisa White for 5 years in the Residential Care Center, Phyllis Gengler for 5 years in medical records, Teri Pollet for 10 years in pharmacy, and Rolenda Corpstein for 30 years in acute.

The Board finalized their meeting with an executive session to discuss medical staff credentials.
