Clarence Zabel, Age 86

Clarence Arthur Zabel, 86, passed away Monday, January 26, 2015. Clarence was born February 15, 1928 in Smith County, KS the son of Arthur Johanas and Christine Dorthea Marie (Beckmann) Zabel. On May 1, 1951, he married Phillis Lavoe Hermanns and they were blessed with fourn children, Christine, Deborah, Evelyn and John. Lavoe passed away November 9, 1981. Clarence was married to Laverna Reed Mizner from 1984 to 1991 and married Betty L. Van Wey Johanek on November 14, 1992 and were married for 22 years until Clarence's passing.

Clarence was preceded in death by his first wife, Lavoe; a brother, Mervin and wife Elvera Zabel; a sister, Erma Henrichs; a grandson, Simeon Weltmer; and four brother-in-laws, Fredrick Hermanns, Lemoyn Hermanns, Don Zabel and Leo Henrichs. He is survived by his wife, Betty Zable, of Smith Center; three sons, John (Laura) Zabel of Smith Center, Ron (Barb) Johanek of Esbon, Jim (Angie) Johanek of Cawker City; six daughters, Christine (Robert) Masleid of Monte Sereno, CA, Deborah (Kenton) Weltmer of Smith Center, Evelyn (Michael) Wilson of Topeka, Sharon (John) Bergman of Lebanon, Nancy (Dave) Stortz, Tracy (Chuck) Decker all of Smith Center; two sister-in-laws, Donna Hermanns of Sun Lakes, AZ, Leona Champion of San Jose, CA; two brother-in-laws, Burdette (Janet) Hermanns of Gaylord, Bill (Barbara) Hermanns of Tulsa, OK; 19 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, January 31, 2015 at the American Lutheran Church, Smith Center, KS, with James Germer, PMA officiating. Visitation will be held Friday, January 30, 2015 from 1:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. at All Faiths Funeral Chapel, Smith Center and until service time at the church. Burial will be in the St. John Lutheran Church Cemetery, Athol, KS. Memorials may be given to the American Lutheran Church and/or H.E.L.P.
