Dolores M. "Dee" Erickson, the daughter of Roy E. Williams and Claribel (Ewing) Williams, was born December 12, 1940 at Chicago, Illinois and passed away on April 10, 2015 at Scandia, KS at the age of 74 years, 3 months, and 28 days.
Dee's father worked for the Rock Island Railroad and she grew up in Fairbury, NE, and later lived in Goodland, KS, where she graduated from Goodland High School. She then attended Fort Hays State University where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in English. Dee than began her teaching career of 38 years at Republic, KS, and later Skyline High School, Pratt, KS. She then returned to the area where she taught at Jamestown and Courtland/Scandia school districts. She retired from the Pike Valley School District as a Librarian and 6th Grade English Teacher.
On August 23, 1969, she was united in marriage to James L. Erickson and to this union was born: Tim and Joy. The couple made their home in Scandia, KS and he survives.
Dee was a member of the United Methodist Church, Scandia, KS and the U.M.W. where she was active for many years. She was a volunteer at the Scandia Museum and also was the City Librarian, Courtland, KS.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Claribel Williams, two brothers, Robert and Richard Williams, and a brother-in-law, Erick Erickson.
Dee is survived by her husband, James L. "Jim" Erickson of Scandia, KS; one son, Tim W. (Jennifer) Erickson of Coldwater, KS; one daughter, Joy A. Erickson of Salina, KS and friend Harvey Blackwood of Belleville, KS; three grandchildren, Jacob, Andrew, and Nicholas; other relatives, and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at the United Methodist Church, Scandia, KS, with Pastor Kathy Aeillo, officiating.
Interment will be at the Riverview Cemetery, Scandia, KS.
Visitation will be from 1PM until 9PM on Monday and 9AM until 9PM on Tuesday at the Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home, Scandia, KS. The family will greet friends from 6PM until 8 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials in lieu of flowers are suggested to United Methodist Church or Solomon Valley Hospice.
