Samuel John Hendrich, 96, went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, April 19, 2015 at Smith County Long Term Care, Smith Center, KS. He was born on September 4, 1918 in Sylvan Grove, KS, the son of Louis John Hendrich and Marie Lydia (Kejr) Hendrich. Sam was the oldest of eight boys. As a young boy he received Jesus Christ as his Personal Savior. During his lifetime his desire was to love and serve his Savior. For most of his life he had a deep interest in aeronautics and owned, maintained, and enjoyed flying his own airplane. He enjoyed giving rides to his siblings and to many of his friends.

Sam helped in the construction of Grace Baptist Church in Smith Center, where he faithfully served the Lord. He taught the adult Sunday School class for many years, as well as holding the office of deacon, trustee, and treasurer. He was also a WWII Navy Veteran.

After the death of his father Louis, he returned to the home-place located north of Portis to farm and care for his mother and for a short time his aunt Anna Kejr. When the time came and he could no longer farm, he built a home next to Clarence (C.E.) and Willa Hendrich. He lived in his home until he entered a care facility.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Theophil and a baby sister, Lydia.

He is survived by six brothers, Daniel (Shirley) Hendrich, Redding, CA, Joseph (Betty) Hendrich, Fort Morgan, CO, Paul Hendrich, Portis, KS, Timothy (Naomi) Hendrich, Smith Center, KS, Clarence (Willa) Hendrich, Portis, KS, and Harry (Marjorie) Hendrich, Smith Center, KS, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, April 24, 2015 at All Faiths Funeral Chapel, Smith Center, KS, with Pastor Jennings A. Hall officiating.
