Evelyn J "Granny" Smith, 86, former Smith County Resident, passed away Wednesday June 3rd, 2015 in Loveland, CO.

She was born Sept 25th, 1928 in rural Smith County to Amasa and Pearl (Baumann) Smith. Evelyn was united in marriage to Donald L. Smith on Feb. 9th. 1947 in Kensington, KS.

Family members left to treasure her memory include Brother AE Smith (Sharie) of Lindale, TX, Sister Carolyn Underwood of Bennington, KS, Brother in Law Rodney Rorabaugh of Lebanon, KS, Sister in Law Sharon Smith of Lincoln, NE, a Daughter Connie Corbett (Bill) of Loveland, CO and her Children Lorin (Jennifer), Kacey (Dan), Justin and Erica, a Son D. Kent Smith of Loveland and his Children Brent and Adele, and Daughter Karen DeMars (Rocky) also of Loveland and her Child Lacey, 10 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her Husband, Donald, Parents Pearl and Amasa, Sisters Thelma Smith, Delorse Rorabaugh, Margaret Saathoff, and Lucille Cromwell, Brother Henry Smith, Brother in Law William "Buck" Cromwell, Brother in Law Jerry Underwood and Brother in Law Gerald Saathoff.

Evelyn loved to socialize with both friends and family, always having a story to share, confirming the slogan of the Eatin' Inn restaurant she and Don owned and operated in Smith Center: "You are a stranger here but once." "Granny", as she was commonly called by her family, was recognized for both her cooking and sewing abilities, including her Granny Smith pies and the crocheting of afghans that were treasured by the grandchildren and great grandchildren who received them. Well known for numerous moves during their marriage, Don and Evelyn made their home in a number of towns in both Colorado and Kansas, but always referred to Smith County as home.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 pm Friday June 12th, 2015 at the Fairview Cemetery in Smith Center, KS with Pastor Lance McDowell officiating, where she will be laid to rest next to Donald.

A gathering of friends and family will take place at the Kensington American Legion following the service.
