Mildred Paynter, Age 88

Mildred Marie (Covey) Paynter passed away on Jan. 8, 2013 in Peoria, Arizona at the age of 88. Mildred was born on Feb. 11, 1924 in Stockton, Ks. to George Covey and Hattie Westhaven and grew up just north of Woodston. Mildred graduated from Woodston High School in 1942. At the age of 19, she married Maurice James Paynter on Dec. 25, 1943. They celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary Christmas 2012. During their marriage they co-owned the Paynter Grocerey Store that was located in Woodston and later in Downs. Mildred worked full-time as a bookkeeper in the grocery store and as a full-time mother to Christine and Lilnda. She was an active member of the Evangelical United Brethren Church while living in Woodston and of the United Methodist Church while in Downs. After retirement, Mildred and her husband enjoyed camping wtih their friends in the Good Sam's Camping Club and liked to winter in Mesa, Arizona. Mildred is survived by her two daughters Christine (Myron) Desmarteau of Surprise, Arizona and Linda (Dr. Duane) Muck of Osborne, Ks.; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one grandson, Christian Muck.

Graveside services and burial for Mildred will be be held Saturday, June 27, 2015 at 10:30 am at Ash Rock Cemetery, Rural Woodston, KS with Rev. Dennis Davenport officiating.
