Bessie Lurane Bierman was born January 11, 1913 to Sidney and Ursula Jane (Waugh) Sutton in Osborne, KS. She departed this life July 2, 2015 at the Kensington Health & Rehab at the age of 102 and 6 months.

Bessie grew up in Osborne graduating from High School in 1931. She accepted Christ into her life at an early age.

She married Hugh Miller on September 12, 1931, to this union two daughters were born, Patricia and Shirley. They farmed until 1945 then moved to Kensington where they both worked in the Hainke Foundry.

She married Rex Bierman on March 28,, 1954. Rex farmed and they enjoyed the farm life and traveling to many states. Grandchildren was a joy to them, going to ball games and other activities. Rex died January 7, 1973, so she then moved to Kensington. The family helped her to learn to drive before she moved to town. She became very independent going to see family and friends. Playing cards and taking many bus trips all over the United States and Europe. She joined the American Legion Auxiliary, enjoyed the Kensington Senior Center and St. John Lutheran Bible study. Going to the harvest field and taking treats. She had good neighbors and liked to visit with them.

Bessie is survived by daughters Patty Hainke and Shirley Hartman and son-in-law Lyle. Grandchildren Gary Hainke & wife Liz, Rod Hainke & wife Linda, Brian Hainke, Marci Rust & husband Pat, Michelle LeiVan & Mike, Melanie Ewing & Gale, and Kent Levin; Great-Grandchildren Nicole Benischek & husband Adam, Leslie Brown & husband Garrett, Natalie Knipp & husband Chuck, Kristi Monack & Mike, Steven Rust & fiancée Ashley, Jared LeiVan, Erin LeiVan, J.R. Ewing, John & Sam LeiVan; Great-Great-Grandchildren Cheyenne & Meren Benischek, Carson & Colby Knipp, Walker Brown, Macie & Delainey Monack, Colton & Caydence Ewing, John & Katherine LeiVan and Chase LeiVan.

Bessie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Rex, son-in-law Bob Hainke, a granddaughter-in-law Grace Hainke, her sister Jacquetta & brother-in-law Bill.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 6, 2015 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Kensington, KS, with Pastor Lorna Paulus and Jim Germer, P.M.A. officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday, July 5, 2015 from 1:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at All Faiths Funeral Chapel, Smith Center and Monday, July 6, 2015 from 8:30 a.m. until service time at the church. Burial will be in the Olive Branch Cemetery, rural Kensington, KS. Memorials may be given to the St. John's Lutheran Church and/or Kensington Senior Center in care of the funeral chapel.
