Laura Mae Slack Humrich age 89, passed away on July 15, 2015.

Laura Mae Slack Humrich was born on April 3, 1926 the daughter of Charles W. and Laura E. Read Slack at Kearney, NE. Laura Mae was the 8th child of the family of 15 children.

Mae as she was called attended Kearney Public Schools and graduated from Kearney Senior High in 1943. She married Victor G. Humrich on February 5, 1944. They made their home in Smith Center, KS for over 56 years. Victor passed away on July 15, 2000 and in 2002 Mae moved to Gothenburg, NE to be closer to family.

Due to failing health Mae moved to Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg, NE in November 2014.

Mae loved her family and was proud to be 1 of 15. She loved to joke and laugh and she was loud. She was a good bowler and along with her teammates won many trophies. During her years at Smith Center she worked at various places. Her last place of employment before retirement was Huffman's Floor Covering.

Mae was preceded in death by her parents, husband Victor, 7 brothers, Chester, Charles, Donald, Merl, Earl, Ray & Riley; 5 sisters, Vera Tappan, Elnora Camp, Bertha Holt, Betty Eggers & Frances Honse.

She is survived by one sister, Nancy Cox of Denver, CO; a brother Roy (Elaine) Slack of Aurora, CO; 3 sister in laws, Arlene Slack of Kearney, NE, Patricia Slack of Branson, MO, Pamela Slack of Gothenburg, NE; She is survived by nieces Shirley (Dale) Luft of Smith Center, Connie (Buck) Orvig of Lindale, TX, Virginia Freeborn of Smith Center, Georgia Mae, Linda, Susan, Lori, Vicki & Tammy; nephews Roy Dean Bell of rural Smith County, Larry, Steve, Dennis, Jay, Gary, Chuck, John, Doug, Tim, Jim, Walter, Phil, Bob, Elvin.

Celebration of Life services will be held at 10:30AM on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at the Simmons-Rentschler Mortuary with Pastor Lance McDowell officiating.

Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery in Smith Center, KS.

The family strongly suggests memorial contributions be made to Central Plains Hospice in Cozad, NE and/or Donor's Choice and can be sent in care of the mortuary.
