BELOIT LEGION BASEBALL TEAM WINS ZONE TOURNEY HEADED TO STATE AT COLBY

legion baseball zone championship @ lincoln

Concordia advanced to play Beloit for the championship by winning the early game over Osborne by a score on 1-0.

Beloit wins the championship game 10-8 over Concordia.

The championship began lop sided as Concordia went out to the huge and stunning early lead 7-0 after just the 1st inning.  Beloit had entered the game with a very confident feeling knowing they had not yet lost in the double elimination tournament, and they had Jeremy Eilert one of their aces rested and ready to go to the mound for them. It just didn’t prove to be Eilert’s night as he faltered early and didn’t make it out of the first inning.  Concordia bats got to Eilert early and often, and a couple of costly errors had Beloit down 7-0 after the 1st inning.

Caydren Cox was called on to stop the bleeding and relived Eilert.  Right away Cox got a ground out double play to end the Concordia first inning which saw 10 batters come to the plate.  Cox then went on to pitch a scoreless 2nd and 3rd innings in his fine middle relief appearance.

Beloit meanwhile turned their focus on the large task of surmounting a comeback.  Beloit scored 3 runs in the 2nd to trim the lead to 7-3, and then scored 4 runs in the 3rd inning to tie the game at 7-7.

Davis Dubbert doubled home two runs in the 2nd inning and Noah Marozas drove in Dubbert.  In the 3rd inning Jeremy Eilert led off with a single, Trey Dubbert, Luke Hesting, and Caydren Cox all followed with singles, and Kelden Hyman drove in the tying run with a single. Just like that there was a new ballgame. Beloit had gotten back up on their feet, crawled out of the cellar and completed the stellar comeback.  With the game tied 7-7 Coach Kevin Marozas went to the bull pen and called on Davis Dubbert.  Dubbert who had just pitched Beloit to victory on Monday night was back to try and get it done again.  Dubbert went the rest of the way pitching 4 spectacular innings allowing just one run, unearned, on just one hit.  Like the prior outing Monday night Dubbert stepped to the mound for the final 7th inning with the lead and slammed the door with a fly ball out and 2 strike outs.

Beloit had captured the lead in the top of the 5th inning to move ahead 9-7.  Once again it was Jeremy Eilert this time doubling .  Eilert would come around to score.  Luke Hesting reached on a fielders choice and Caydren Cox drove him home with an RBI single.

In the bottom of the 5th inning Concordia picked up a run on a passed ball to trim the lead to 9-8.

In the Beloit half of the 7th Jeremy Eilert was back at it again as he led off with a base on balls.  Trey Dubbert laid down the sacrifice bunt to perfection to move Eilert to second base.  Luke Hesting then drew a base on balls.  Caydren Cox then hit a fly ball to center Eilert tagged and moved to third.  An errant throw allowed Eilert to score.  As it turned out the insurance run was not needed as Dubbert owned the 7th inning as he has much of the summer season.  Dubbert improved his pitching record to 8-0 and the Beloit squad is now 21-3 overall and hasn’t lost since June 24th.

Jeremy Eilert was 2-3 on the night, drew a walk, and scored 3 times. Luke Hesting was 1-3, drew 2 walks, and scored 3 times.  Caydren Cox was 2-4 and had 3 RBI’S.  Trey Dubbert and Davis Dubbert both collected 2 hits a piece.  Noah Marozas was 1-2 and had 2 walks.
