Lola Van Wey, Age 87

Lola Marie VanWey was born on October 1, 1927 in the Odessa township near Lebanon, Kansas, the daughter of Thomas and Belle Denny Watson. She died early Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit, Kansas at the age of 87 years, 9 months, and 27 days. Lola grew up and attended school near Esbon and Lebanon. On January 5, 1949, she was united in marriage with Harold I. VanWey in the Odessa Church. Two sons were born to this union. They were privileged to spend 61 years of marriage together until Harold's death in January 2010. After their marriage, they lived on a farm north of Cawker City before moving to Ionia. In 1967, they returned to Cawker City, where she lived the rest of her life. She enjoyed sewing and spending time with her family, and also loved working in the nursing homes in Cawker City, Downs, and Beloit. She was a member of the Cawker City United Methodist Church and the VFW Auxiliary. In addition to her husband, Lola was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Wayne Lee; her sister, Elva Gleason; and her brother, Otis Watson. She is survived by her son Chet VanWey of Cawker City; one grandson, Brandon VanWey; her sister, Wanda Hodge; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be from 4-8 PM Friday at the Cawker City United Methodist Church, with cremation to follow. A graveside memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be given to the Cawker City United Methodist Church or the American Legion Post #379
