MONDAY NOV 2 MITCHELL COUNTY COMMISSIONERS MEETING

Mitchell County Commissioners

Monday, November 2, 2015

By Terry Bailey

The Mitchell County Commissioners met at the Courthouse on Monday morning, November 2 to conduct the business affairs of the County. All Commissions and the County Clerk were present for the business meeting.

Before the meeting was called to order, those present took time to note the exceptional athletic accomplishments of the world champions Kansas City Royals, the victory in England of the Kansas City Chiefs, the fourth place finish of the Beloit High girls’ volleyball team at the State Volleyball tournament in Emporia, the great effort of the Beloit High cross country runners at the State Cross Country meet at the Rim Rock Cross Country course and the hard work of the St. Johns girls volleyball team at Hays.

After the meeting was called to order the minutes of the October 26 meeting were approved.

The next order of business was an application for a cereal malt beverage license for the K&N Corporation doing business as the Beloit Pizza Hut. The application was unanimously approved.

An application for a Neighborhood Revitalization Grant was next on the agenda. Michael Corpstein had submitted an application for a Neighborhood Revitalization Grant for a new house in the amount of $345,000. The structure will be located about one and a quarter miles east of Tipton. The application was unanimously approved.

Jay Rowh was appointed as a member of the North Central Kansas Flint Hills Area Agency on Aging Board of Directors. He has served two previous terms and has agreed to serve one more term. By law this will be his final appointment because members are limited to three terms on the Board.

Larry Emerson accompanied by his departmental secretary Karm Princ, appeared before the Commissioners and requested a 20 minute executive session for the purpose of discussing trade secrets of a corporation.

At the end of the 20 minute closed session, the executive session was extended for another 10 minutes. No decisions were made as a result of the closed sessions.

Emerson then updated the Commissions on the major activities of his department. He said the bridge crew had put in 34 working days on the K Road bridge construction. They have driven the pilings on the east abutment. He believes that if the weather cooperates, the bridge should be back in service within three weeks for a total of about 50 working days. Emerson said that once the bridge was in operation, the road crews would be hauling road material and fixing up the gravel roads that had been used as a detour.

His crews are getting ready for the new bridge construction on R road by Brian Jordan’s. They will soon start on constructing the “Shoo Fly” detour at the bridge site so the restrictions to traffic would be at a minimum.

At this point all the items on the agenda had been successfully addressed and the meeting was adjourned.
