Beloit, Kansas - The Anderson Creek Fire that started in Oklahoma and spread northward into Kansas destroyed nearly 400,000 acres of land, fences, personal property and livestock, March 22-25.
In response, Farmway Co-op, Inc. and Mitchell County Farm Bureau organized efforts to collect hay bales to donate to affected producers. Thanks to our area producers and the community's support, the two organizations were able to donate two semi-loads of hay to producers around Medicine Lodge, Kansas.
The next priority for victims of the fire is cash donations for fencing supplies. Monetary donations will be accepted throughout the month of April at the Mitchell County Farm Bureau Office and at the Farmway Administrative Office, both in Beloit. Make checks payable to: Mitchell County Farm Bureau.
"These funds will be used for fencing supplies, animal health efforts and other needs," said Mallory Wittstruck, Farmway communications director. "We appreciate the efforts put forth by our community to help our friends in the south."
