Eva V. Hotaling, age 95, longtime Concordia resident, died Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at the Sunset Nursing Home. She was born September 17, 1920 in Hayden, Colorado to Floyd C. and Eva L. (Gibbons) Brown.

She graduated from Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas in 1942. She taught school for four years in New Jersey and 21 years in Kansas. Two of those years were in Wetmore, one in Greenleaf and the final 18 years in Concordia USD 333.

On June 16, 1945 Eva married Wilfred E. Hotaling in Jersey City, New Jersey at the Grace Church Van Vorst where Wilfred served as Vicar and Eva taught music in the Jersey City school system. Eva and Wilfred moved to Concordia in 1949.

She was a member of the Episcopal Church and was Church organist and choir director at Epiphany for over 40 years. She was also a member of Altar Guild of Epiphany Church, Associate of Sisters of Holy Nativity Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, Leah Chapter 182 Eastern Star, Past Matrons Club of The Order of The Eastern Star, Social Order of Beaucant, Chapter AO of P.E.O., Improvement Club, Cloud County Historical Society.

She is survived by her son, Jon E. Hotaling, Burlington, Kansas; daughter, Rebecca S. Pyle (Carl), Salina, Kansas; 2 grandchildren Pieter (Tammy) Miller of Hutchinson, KS and Elizabeth Duggins of Salina, KS.; 3 great-grandchildren, Hayden Duggins, Natalie and Owen Miller.

Eva was preceded in death by her Husband, Wilfred E. Hotaling, June 22, 1981, her parents, 1 brother, Floyd S. Brown and son-in-law, Douglas Miller.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., Thursday, May 5, 2016 at the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia.

A private family graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 6, 2016 at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia, Kansas with Rev. David Strommen officiating.

Family and friends will gather at the Episcopal Church in Concordia following the committal service at 1:00 p.m., Friday, May 6, 2016 for a Celebration of Eva's Life. Rev. David Strommen and Kenneth Palmquist will be officiating.

Memorial contributions will be set up in Eva's name and given to a graduating CHS Student majoring in music or secondary education each year.
