B. Maxine McCune, Age 96

A precious baby girl, B. Maxine Loomis, was born on May 5, 1920 at Stockton, KS to Ray E. and Myrle (Harbert) Loomis. The first year of her life was spent in their country home SW of Stockton. Maxine's parents relocated to the Esbon area where she attended 1st through 3rd grades. Maxine attended 4th through 8th at Pioneer Grade School southwest of Jewell. She went to Jewell High School and graduated in 1937 after going five years. The fifth year was for further education.
Maxine had various jobs working away from home as a young woman. Maxine received the Lord into her heart at a young age.
Maxine was united in marriage to Elwart F. McCune on May 19, 1940 in Beloit, KS. They lived in Mitchell and Jewell counties all their married life on the farm. To this union were born five children: Stanley Elwart, Michelle Rose, Dianne Kay, Kathleen Jean and Kevin Ray.
Maxine accomplished graduating from LPN School at 54, and retired from Hilltop Lodge at age 80. She was a member of Jewell Rebekah Lodge and the Ladies Aide Garden Club and the Jewell Christian Church.
Maxine enjoyed her many interests: quilting, crocheting, embroidering, sewing garments, needlepoint, reading romance books, stain glass painting, canning. All these she shared with her family and loved ones. She enjoyed traveling with her family to many places and playing cards. She was a wonderful and loving mother to her family; she had gentle but hard working hands.
Preceding her in death were her parents, 1 brother, 3 sisters, her husband Elwart, one son Stanley Elwart, two son-in-laws Dennis Smiley and Richard White.
Left to celebrate her life are her daughter Michelle White of Yucaipa, CA, Dianne and Len Brown, daughter and son-in-law, of Farmersville, TX, Kathleen Smiley, daughter of Zavalla, TX, Kevin and Dorothy McCune, son and daughter-in-law of Kenai, AL, and daughter-in-law Judy McCune of Zavalla, TX; 24 grandchildren, 76 great grandchildren, and 26 great-great grandchildren, a sister C. Sue Creitz of Beloit and a brother and sister-in-law Wesley and Pam Loomis of Knoxville, IA and a host of nieces and nephews.
Maxine went to be with her Heavenly Father on June 12, 2016. Her celebration of life will be held at the Jewell Christian Church on June 20, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. with the Pastor Dan Daniels officiating. Carol Cordell is the soloist with Jean Nyberg accompanying these hymns "In the Garden", "How Great Thou Art", and "Amazing Grace". "Over The Waves" will be played as this was Maxine's favorite song to play on the piano for her children and family.
Visitation will be Sunday, June 19, 2016 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Kleppinger Funeral Home, 409 Broadway, Jewell.
Memorials may be given to Solomon Valley Hospice or Perdue House in Beloit. Burial will be in Jewell City Cemetery.
