MONDAY jUNE 27TH Mitchell County Hospital Health Systems Board of Trustees Meeting

The Mitchell County Hospital Health Systems Board of Trustees met last night for their regular monthly meeting.  Updates and reports to the Board began with the Information Technology Department reporting about current projects and giving an overview of what they do as a department.  They are currently working on a single sign-on program for staff so that they will be able to use their name badges for multiple purposes.  This change would cause greater efficiency in various positions by limiting the number of times an employee has to log into the system in a given day.  Two other projects of importance for the IT Department include continued development of electronic forms and a downtime backup system that will help critical information remain available if the connection goes down between Beloit and the main system in Salina.

Next the Board heard from Stephanie Simmons about current events and projects at the Mitchell County Regional Medical Foundation.  From April 2016 through June 27th, 2016, the Purdue House hosted 15 guests and has been receiving donations.  Memorials and donations received by the Foundation have been from the Glen Cheney memorial, the Bruce Kieffer memorial, the Coola File memorial, and the Maxine McCune memorial.  The 2016 Melvin File Memorial Scholarship recipients were also announce in May and noted at the June meeting.  They are Audrey Shamburg and Chris Chandler from Beloit High School, Megan Bates from St. John's Catholic High School, Samantha Hollerich from Tipton Catholic High School, and Emily Cox and Lexis Jeffery from Rock Hills High School.  The 8th Annual MCRMF Golf Tournament is also coming up on Thursday, August 11th, and the Board was reminded that the early registration deadline is July 11th.  Another item highlighted in the Foundation report was about an upcoming diabetes prevention program to begin in July.  Several local patients have already been admitted to the program that involves a year-long commitment that focuses on turning a pre-diabetic patient around to a healthier patient instead of them moving into a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes.  The final area of discussion from the Foundation was the permanent closure of the northeast exit of the main parking lot at the hospital.  The focus of this discussion was to make sure the public is aware that this closure is not meant to cause an inconvenience, but to create a safer environment for pedestrians and patrons of the hospital.

Other reports given included an administrative report by Chief Executive Officer Jeremy Armstrong in which he updated the Board on topics including a federal and state legislative update and the possibility of an electronic portal being made available for Board members, which would reduce the amount of paper used for packets at monthly meetings.  The Board also heard a finance and statistics report from Chief Financial Office Eldon Koepke before approving the capital purchase of a critical alert system for the X-Ray Department in the amount of $15,693, which is below the budgeted amount of $16,000.  This system would connect that department with other departments in a nurse call system that they do not currently have.

Finally the Board acknowledged service awards for Candy Tompkins in Acute Nursing for 30 years, Judy Wells in Acute Nursing for 20 years, Carlea Nitsch in Environmental Services for 5 years, Samantha Moser in Acute Nursing for 5 years, Amber Koenig in Dietary for 5 years, Amber Wacker in Acute Nursing for 5 years, and Megan Cheek in Pharmacy for 5 years.  The Board then adjourned to Executive Session to discuss non-elected personnel.
