Richard L. Sulanka, age 66, went to be with the Lord on Thurs., July 7, 2016 at Via Christi Hospital, Manhattan, KS. He was born on August 14, 1949 in Concordia, KS to Lewis (Dick) & Emeline (Gardner) Sulanka.

Richard graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1967. He served during the Vietnam war in the US Marine Corps where he was wounded in 1969 and received a Purple Heart. Upon returning home, he married Margaret "Peg" Blackwell on September 26, 1969 in Aurora, Kansas. Richard was a lifelong area resident & farmer.

Memberships include the St. Peter's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus; American Legion Post #76 and VFW Post #588 both of Concordia. He also served as Fire Chief for Miltonvale/Aurora Rural Fire Departments.

Richard is survived by his wife, Peg, Aurora; sons; Larry, Glenn (Jill), Randy (Amy), Jerry (Tammi), Oak Hill, KS.; Robert & James all of Aurora; his mother, Emeline, Concordia; sisters, Sandra Donovan (Mike) & Vickie Arpin (Lee), both of Salina & Debra Coleman (Max); 6 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his father; brothers, Larry Lee & Greg & a niece, Stephanie Sulanka.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, July 11, 2016 at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Aurora with Fr. Steven Heina officiating. Burial with Military Honors by US Marine Corp., American Legion Post #76 & VFW Post #588 will follow the service at St. Peter's Cemetery, Aurora. Visitation will be from 12-8 pm Sunday, July 10, 2016 with a Vigil /Knights of Columbus Rosary service starting at 6 pm all at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia. Family will receive friends after the Rosary service.
