Thelma Garrison, Age 100

Thelma Alberta (Kocher) Garrison was born to Walker Athelston and Mary Malina (Paddock) Kocher on November 7, 1915 on a farm in Lyon Township, Glasco, Kansas. She departed this life on July 10, 2016 at the age of 100.

Thelma attended grade school at Excelsior Rural District No. 70 and graduated from Concordia High School in 1933. After graduation, Thelma worked as a telephone operator in Concordia for several years.

At the time of her marriage to Myron Clay Garrison on November 9, 1939, which was her parents' 35th wedding anniversary, Thelma was Deputy County Clerk of Cloud County.

After marriage, Thelma and Myron moved to a farm in Oakland Township, Miltonvale, Kansas. They later purchased a farm in Meredith Township and lived there until moving into Miltonvale in 1974, semi-retired. In 2005, Thelma moved into Marquis Place Assisted Living and since 2012 has lived in Sunset Home in Concordia.

To this union were born two sons, Billy Kaye and Gary Robert.

Thelma was a loving wife and mother, putting her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren first in her life. She was always busy doing fancywork/crochet, piecing quilts, reading & sharing books, caring for her flower garden and later her husband.

An Aunt once made the remark that Thelma was a person "who wore well."

While growing up, Thelma's mother had very poor health, so Thelma had to do many household jobs that would be required of someone much older. She helped raise her younger brother George.

After Bill and Gary were grown, Thelma worked as a nurse's aide at St. Joseph Hospital in Concordia for 21 years and retiring in 1983. She often spoke of the wonderful nurses and aides she worked with, all of the patients she cared for and the sad and happy experiences she had.

Thelma was a 4-H Leader for several years and served as a Clerk of District 77 School Board. She was a member of the New Hope Church in rural Concordia and was saved and baptized at that church. Thelma enjoyed her family and her friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Myron, son Gary, parents, one sister Oris Regnier and four brothers, Chris, Kenneth, Keith and George Kocher.

She leaves to mourn her passing, son Bill and wife Frances, Miltonvale; daughter in law, Ruth Garrison, Salina, KS; four grandchildren, James Robert Garrison and wife Lisa, Auburn, KS, Greg William Garrison and wife Eve, Pratt, KS, Leslie Annette Stahl and husband Micha, Salina, KS and Chad Walker Garrison, Wichita, KS; seven great grandchildren, Luke Alexander and Blake James Garrison, Auburn, KS, Austin Devin Lindsey and Kaitlyn Nicole Stahl, Salina, KS, Isaac William, Hannah Marie and Zachariah Ethan Garrison, Pratt, KS; many nieces, nephews and friends.
