Sister Kathleen Flood, Age 90

Sister Kathleen Flood died September 14, 2016, at Cloud County Health Center in Concordia, KS. She was 90 years old and a Sister of St. Joseph for 71 years. She was born in El Paso, TX, on October 27, 1925 to Michael and Kathryn Keavy Flood, the fifth of nine children, and was baptized Mary Elizabeth Flood. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph, Concordia, Kansas on September 7, 1944. On March 18, 1945, Elizabeth received the habit of the Sisters of St. Joseph and was given the name Sister Kathleen. She pronounced first vows on March 19, 1946 and final vows on March 19, 1949.

In 1949 Sister Kathleen received a nursing diploma from St. Mary Hospital, Manhattan, KS, and in 1971 she graduated from Mt. Angel College, Mt. Angel, Oregon with a BS in Behavioral Science and a minor in Gerontology. She served primarily in the surgical areas in hospitals in Concordia, Manhattan, Seneca, and Salina, KS; and in El Paso, TX. After her retirement from the medical field in 1990, Sister Kathleen oversaw the congregation's guest house in El Paso, TX. She moved to the Motherhouse in Concordia in 2009. In August, 2011, Kathleen was transferred to Mount Joseph Senior Village.

Sister Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents and six brothers. She is survived by one sister, Isabell Marie Flood, and one brother, Francis Flood, both of El Paso, TX.

A Bible Vigil Service will be held September 16 at 11:00 a.m. in the Nazareth Motherhouse Chapel with Sister Missy Ljungdahl as the eulogist. The Mass of Christian Burial will be September 16 at 2:30 p.m. in the Motherhouse Chapel with Rev. James Hoover presiding. The burial will be in the Nazareth Motherhouse Cemetery. Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, 325 W. 6th St., Concordia, KS is in charge of arrangements.
