Berniece Bettenhausen, Age 87

Berniece J. Bettenhausen of Hebron, NE was born December 18, 1928 in Hebron, NE the daughter of Joe and Josephine (Willy) Hiller. She departed this life Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at Blue Valley Lutheran Nursing Home in Hebron, NE at the age of 87 years.

Berniece (Joan) grew up the Hebron area attending Sacred Heart Catholic School, then District 48 country school and then Hebron High School. When her mother died she stayed at home caring for her father and younger brothers and sisters. She was a former member of St Patrick's Catholic Church in Fremont, NE where she was active in the Catholic Daughters, and later a member of Sacred Heart Catholic in Hebron, NE. She practiced her Catholic faith all of her life. Berniece married Frank Benttenhausen August 27, 1955 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hebron, NE. The couple moved to Fremont, NE where Frank was employed by Campbell's Soup. Berniece stayed at home operating a day care and also washed dishes at a local cafe. The couple enjoyed gardening, and she like to can some of the produce, bus trips, playing cards, bingo, and horse races and participating in many activities at Blue Valley. In 2001 the couple moved to Blue Valley Lutheran Home in Hebron. Frank passed away in 2008.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brothers; Arthur, Hugh and wife Loreine , Ted and wife Rosemary, and Bob, sister; Marie Richards and husband Bob, brother-in-law Don Heywood.

She is survived by her sisters Carolyn Kassebaum and husband Bill of Hastings, NE, twin sister Barbara Heywood of Gering, NE, brother Joe Hiller of Lake Wood, CO, sister-in-law Barbara Hiller of Bennington, NE, nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, and friends.

Mass of the Christian Burial will by held Friday, September 23, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hebron, NE at 10AM. Officiant will be Father Rudy Oborny, organist Julie Kriesel, congregational hymns "Amazing Grace", "How Great Thou Art", and "Holy God We Praise Thy Name", lector Francis Rauner, acolytes Leland Weber and Dan Wiedel, visitation will be Thursday, September 22, 2016 3PM to 7PM at Kroll Funeral Home and before service at church in Hebron, NE, rosary service 9:30 at church Friday, September 23, 2016.
