Sister Margaret Schreck died November 12, 2016, at Cloud County Health Center in Concordia, KS. She was 85 years old and a Sister of St. Joseph for 60 years. She was born in Marienthal, KS on October 18, 1931 to Henry and Adelheid Fonke Schreck, the youngest of eight children, and was baptized Margaret Mary. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph, Concordia, KS on September 9, 1955. On March 19, 1956, Margaret received the habit of the Sisters of St. Joseph and was given the name Sister Marguerite Cecile, later changing her name to Margaret. She pronounced first vows on March 19, 1957 and final vows on March 19, 1960.

Sister Margaret received a B.S. in Home Economics in 1953 from Marymount College in Salina, KS, and a M.S. in Clothing and Textiles in 1967 from Kansas State University, Manhattan, KS. She taught in high schools staffed by the Sisters of St. Joseph in Salina, KS and Grand Island, NE. Beginning in 1971 she primarily taught English as a second language to foreign students in Junction City, KS, Lawton, OK, San Antonio, TX, Tunica, MS, Yarnell, AZ and Searcy, AR. In 1993, she retired to Nazareth Motherhouse; later moving to Mt. Joseph Senior Community in 2013.

Sister Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and three sisters. A Bible Vigil Service will be held November 15, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. in the Nazareth Motherhouse Chapel with Sister Janet Lander as the eulogist. The Mass of Christian Burial will be November 16, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. in the Motherhouse Chapel with Rev. Jim Hoover presiding. The burial will be in the Nazareth Motherhouse Cemetery. Nutter Mortuary, 116 E. 6th St., Concordia, KS is in charge of arrangements. Memorials for Sister Margaret Schreck may be given to the Sisters of St. Joseph Health Care/ Retirement Fund or the Apostolic Works of the Sisters; P.O Box 279, Concordia, KS 66901.
