The Mitchell County Commissioners held their regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, September 5th due to the facdt that Monday was a national holiday. All Commissioners were present as well as the County Clerk. Also in attendance were Jason Rabe, Beloit City manager and Heather Hartman, Solomon Valley Economic Director.

Dale Housh, Superintendent of Public Works, told the Commissioners his cews were continuing to do a lot of chip sealing on the hard surfaced roads in the County.

House said his road crews had completed significant work on the “Lonely Mile” road south of Tipton. He said they were not able to complete a totally perfect fix but he believes the drainage of the road and ditch will be much better. The bridge had silted completed shut. They were able to open a significant part of the bridge and water should move through the bridge.

Heather Hartman gave the Commissioner an update on the Rural Opportunity Zone program. This is a program that offers assistance on student loan repayment for people who move into Mitchell County from other locations. Currently there are ten positions reimbursed by private employers and seven funded by Mitchell County
