Jean Dawson, Age 80

Jean Anita Dawson, the daughter of Wilfred E. "Mick" Demarteau and Cerena Pearl (Robinette) Demarteau, was born March 30, 1937 in Clay Center, KS and passed away on September 27, 2017 at the Belleville Healthcare Center, Belleville, KS at the age of 80 years, 5 months, and 27 days. Jean grew up and attended the local public schools of Clay Center, KS, graduating from Clay Center High School in 1955. She graduated as a member of the Honor Society and received the High Ten Award of her graduating class. On July 9, 1956, she was united in marriage to Ralph E. Dawson and to this union was born one daughter: Nancy.
Jean worked at the Union State Bank in Clay Center, KS as a bookkeeper and then the couple moved to Overland Park, KS to make their home. She worked for the Overland State Bank and later the Mobile Oil Company in Overland Park and in Kansas City, KS in bookkeeping. Jean was a member of the Tri-County Rod and Gun Club near Linwood, KS for many years. She assisted her husband, Ralph, in managing the club for 20 years. After Ralph's retirement in 2000, they moved to Belleville, KS.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ralph on March 2, 2017, and one daughter, Nancy.

Jean is survived by one granddaughter, Allison Cassity of Sweetwater, TN; Four great grandchildren; one sister Judy (Ted) Feltman of Twin Falls, Idaho; Sister-in-law, Jean Noble of Belleville, KS and brother-in-law, Jimmie (Donna) Dawson of Manhattan, KS; nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Cremation was selected and memorial graveside services will be held at 11 AM, Thursday, October 12, 2017 at the Belleville Cemetery, Belleville, KS, with Pastor Jeremy Wittwer, officiating. The family will greet friends from 10 AM until 10:55 AM on Thursday at the Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home, Belleville, KS prior to the services.  Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Foundation. Online condolences to www.bachelor-surber.com. Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home, Belleville, KS is in charge of the arrangements.
