Martha Ayers, Age 103

Martha Cornelia Angle Ayers was born near Gentry, Arkansas, to John R. and Elva (Giger) Angle. Shortly after her birth, the family moved back to the family farm 5 miles Northeast of Lovewell, Kansas; she graduated from Lovewell High School in 1930, and soon moved with her brother Marvin and her parents to Corvallis, Oregon where they lived for 6 years. Martha graduated from Oregon State College (now Oregon State University) and began her 29-year teaching career-one year in Oregon and 28 years in Kansas high schools: She taught business, typing, and mathematics. Martha married John E. Ayers in 1949 and, with John's two sons, Jon Rodney and Richard Bruce, moved to the Angle farm, while her parents retired to Superior, Nebraska. Martha and John retired from the farm in 1977 and moved to Tescott, Kansas, where they lived for 18 years. When she was 12, Martha joined the White Rock Methodist Episcopal Church and was active in the Methodist church all of her life. She was a member of the Courtland United Methodist Church at the time of her death. She was a past member of Delta Kappa Gamma and Kansas Retired School Employees. Martha and John moved to Courtland, Kansas, in 1995 and then, in 2001 to Wilde Ridge Apartments in Superior, Nebraska.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Marvin, two infant sisters, Lois Ella and Gertrude Miriam, and by her husband John.

She is survived by her sons, Dr. Jon R. Ayers and life partner Janet Bryars; Richard Bruce Ayers and wife Linda, Courtland KS; Diane Ayers, Frisco TX; grandchildren Leann Ayers, Philadelphia PA; Derrick Ayers and life partner Lynn Burroughs, Cincinnati OH; Lisa Hazen and husband Matthew, Frisco TX; Douglas Ayers and life partner Vicki Arnold, Kansas City MO; Saundra Reed and husband Mark, Courtland KS; Lance Ayers and wife Angie, Mankato KS; Brenda Schwertfeger and husband Jeff, Turon KS; niece Delphine Dodd, Houston TX; nephew Joe Angle and wife Judy, Jacksonville, TX; 15 great grandchildren: Natasha and Caleb Ayers, Jonathan Ayers and wife Christina, Benjamin and William Ayers, Trevor Austin, Lauren Corcoran and husband Dillon, Corinne Ayers, Katie Carlgren and husband Bret, Neely Kohmetscher and husband Roger, Grace and Greta Ayers, Emma, Ellie, Eva, and Erin Schwertfeger. Additionally, 5 great great grandchildren: Brandt, Blakely, and Bristol Carlgren and Reed and Ansley Kohmetscher. Martha loved her family and was thankful for each of them.
