Maude Kopsa, Age 96

Maude E. Kopsa, the daughter of John Mathews and Maud (Edwards) Mathews, was born August 2, 1921 at Clayton, New Jersey and passed away on December 5, 2017 at the Belleville Health Care Center, Belleville, KS at the age of 96 years, 4 months, and 3 days. Maude grew up and attended school in Clayton, NJ, graduating from Clayton High School. Maude was united in marriage to Harold E. Johnson on April 22, 1943 and he preceded in her death. In 1971, she was married to Ben S. Kopsa and he also preceded her in death. Maude was a seamstress and also was a cook at the nursing home. She did laundry at the hospital and was involved in child care for many years. Maude was a member of the Needle Craft Club and the VFW Women's Auxiliary both in Belleville. She also was a member of the Methodist Church in Clayton, NJ.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, 6 brothers, 2 sisters; one son, John Hugh Johnson; one grandson, Christopher John Olsen; and one great granddaughter, Megan Nutsch.

Maude is survived by three sons, Harold (Barb) Johnson of Marysville, KS, Ray Kopsa of Paradise Valley, Arizona and Hal (Theresa) Kopsa of Lawrence, KS; one daughter, Judith (Hans) Olsen of Scandia, KS; 15 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, 35 great great grandchildren, and 1 great great great grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, December 9, 2017 at the Bachelor-Surber Memorial Chapel, with Pastor Jeremy Wittwer, officiating. Interment will be at the Belleville Cemetery, Belleville, KS. Friends may call from One PM until 8 PM on Friday and after 9 AM on Saturday at the funeral home.
