Biographical Data:
Ed was raised in the Mankato-Webber area. In 1937, when he was 11 years old, the family moved to Webber because his mother liked living in the hills better than the plains. He received his formal education at Steuben School District #5, attended Mankato High School and graduated from Montrose High School.
He was united in marriage to Neva Mae Fullerton on June 29, 1947 at Mankato, Kansas. This union was blessed with four children, John, Marie, Max and Monte Carol. He farmed near the Mankato area and ran the Purina Feed Store, and as a young man in Clyde, Kansas, Ed sold bakery goods door to door. He also worked as a salesman for Maytag in Concordia, Kansas. He learned plumbing, and later returned to direct sales, he began working in 1975, selling Lawson hardware products to his 5,400 customers and always remembering everyone's names. Ed received more than 30 trophies and award plaques during his 26 years. He belonged to the Great Plains Division which included Nebraska, Iowa, and South Dakota. He won trips to Hawaii, Missouri, Califomia, Wyoming and Iowa. He was a Boy Scout leader, an EMT and
was a member of the Superior Volunteer Fire Department for many years; he also served on the Superior City Council for 12 years. He entered the Good Samaritan Society on November 23, 2009 where he resided until his passing. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Neva on January 15, 2001, daughter Marie Mikkelsen and sister Bertha Scott. Survivors include his children John of Nenzel, Nebraska, Max and wife Linda of Glenvil, Nebraska and Monte Imler and husband Dan of Formoso,
Kansas; 11 grandchildren: John Wharton, Jr., Heather Jarchow, Corey Mikkelsen, Jarod Mikkelsen, Katrina Hansen, Shawn Wharton, Jeff Wharton, Brad Wharton, Chris Lehrling, Tanner Imler and Garret Imler; 22 great grandchildren and one brother Raymond Wharton and wife Dixie of Deshler, Nebraska; nieces, nephews other relatives and a host of friends.
