Opal L. Gile

Opal Lena Gile, the daughter of Harrold "Harry" Frederick Larsen and Bertha Jane (Vandeveer) Larsen, was born July 14, 1925 at rural Jamestown, KS and passed away on Friday, November 9, 2012 at Mt. Joseph Senior Village, Concordia, KS at the age of 87 years, 3 months and 25 days.
Opal received her education at District 19 country school. She attended Concordia High School and graduated in 1943. She was united in marriage to Clarence L. Gile on March 18, 1945 at the Concordia Baptist Church, Concordia, KS. To this union, four children were born: Kathryn, Duane, Terry, and Paula. Opal and Clarence farmed early in their marriage and later originated and owned the Clarence L. Gile Insurance Agency of Scandia, KS.
Opal was a member of the United Methodist Church of Scandia, KS and was very active in the church, serving as Sunday School teacher, UMW officer and member, and was active in quilting after she retired. She loved flowers and was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Republic County Quilting Guild. Opal moved to Mt. Joseph Senior Village in the spring of 2007.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Clarence L. Gile, sisters:
Agnes Rogers, and A. Laverne Currie; brothers: Mervin Larsen and Glenn Larsen; and an infant great grandson: Chase.
Opal is survived by her children: Kathryn Marozas and husband Ron of Beloit, KS, Duane Gile and wife Elise of Scandia , KS, Terry Gile and wife Nancy of Scandia, KS and Paula Russell and husband Mark of Courtland, KS; ten grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; one brother Virgil Larsen and wife Ruby of Concordia, KS and one sister Corda McMillan and husband Stanley of Jamestown, KS; nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Monday, November 19, 2012 at the Scandia United Methodist Church, Scandia, KS with Pastor Kathy Aeillo, officiating.
Interment will be at the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, rural Norway, KS.
Friends may call from One PM until Nine PM Saturday and Sunday, November 17th and 18th, at the Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home, Scandia, KS where the family will greet friends from 5PM until 7 PM on Sunday.
Memorials are suggested to the Scandia United Methodist Church.
