Sister Louise Marie Vaughan

Sister Louise Marie Vaughan died November 12, 2012, at Cloud County Health Center in Concordia, KS. She was 83 years old and a Sister of St. Joseph for 64 years. She was born in Oklahoma City, OK, on March 29, 1929, to Harold and Louise Knaup Vaughan, the second of six children, and was baptized Mary Lee. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph, Concordia, KS on February 2, 1948. On August 14, 1948, Mary Lee received the habit of the Sisters of St. Joseph and was given the name Sister Louise Marie. She pronounced first vows on August 15, 1949, and final vows on August 15, 1952.
Sister Louise Marie received a B.S. diploma in nursing in 1954 from Marymount College. In 1961 and 1963 she received a M.S.N. and Ph.D. degree respectively from Catholic University in Washington, D.C. In 1964 Sister Louise Marie returned to Marymount College in Salina, KS to serve as Chairperson of the Marymount Nursing Program until 1980. She served as Academic Dean of Marymount College from 1965-1968. In 1980 Sister Louise Marie, along with her twin, Sister Miriam, accepted an appointment by the Bishop of the Salina Diocese to become advocates for the Salina Diocesan Marriage Tribunal. Sister Louise served in this capacity until ill health forced her retirement in 1995. In 1992 she moved to the Motherhouse in Concordia; then in 2011 she moved to Mount Joseph Senior Community.
Sister Louise Marie was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters. She is survived by one brother, James from Springfield, MO; twin sister, Sister Miriam from Concordia, KS and sister, Dorothy Otott of Dallas, GA. A Bible Vigil Service will be (was) held November 18, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. in the Nazareth Motherhouse Chapel with Sister Marcia Allen as the eulogist. The Mass of Christian Burial will be (was) November 19, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. in the Motherhouse Chapel with Msgr. Jim Hake presiding. The burial will be in the Nazareth Motherhouse Cemetery. Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, 325 W. 6th St., Concordia, KS is in charge of arrangements.
