Walter Preston “Pete” McCarty

Walter Preston "Pete" McCarty, 90, of Pueblo, Colorado, passed away peacefully Nov. 8, 2012, at home at Legacy Commons Assisted Living Facility. He was born March 28, 1922, in Kansas City, Missouri.

He served in the U.S. Navy at Pearl Harbor during World War II and retired from the Bureau of Reclamation. Pete, affectionately known as "Gramps," was an avid fisherman who loved spending summers fishing and visiting on his pontoon boat docked at the North Shore Marina at Lake Pueblo.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Lucile McCarty.

He is survived by his children, Gary (Vicki) McCarty, Nancy (Phil) Dunham and Shirley (Tim) Whittmore, all of Pueblo, Colorado; grandchildren: Aaron McCarty, Jason (Kim) Saphara, Jamie Saphara, Andrea Saphara, Adam (Wendy) Hotzel, Shonna Dunham, Cammy (Chris) Peterson; great-grandchildren: Josie Saphara, Jamie Lee Saphara, Vianne Saphara, Dorian Paul, Brianna Hotzel, Casey (Kristie) Christensen, Gabby McCoy and Jillian Peterson; great-great-granddaughter, Addie Christensen; and many nieces and nephews who loved their Uncle Pete. He also is survived by his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Shirley and Gene Mees.

Memorial services were held at 1:00 PM on November 26, 2012 at the VFW Post 5812, 127 E. Spaulding in Pueblo West, Colorado.

Graveside memorial services with Military Honors will be held on Saturday, November 17, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the Evergreen Cemetery, Superior, Nebraska with Pastor Jocelyn Tupper officiating.

Megrue-Price Funeral Home of Superior was in charge of the arrangements.
