Della May Hansen

Della May Hansen, 78, passed away on Sunday, December 9, 2012 at the Smith County Memorial Hospital, Smith Center, KS.

Della was born on December 8, 1934, the daughter of Allen "Greenie" and Eva Marie (Zade) Mullin. She was married to Edward Thompson, to this union they had three children, Larry, Debra and Edward Jr. After she and Edward divorced she then married Melvin Hansen and to this union they were blessed with a son, Terry. Melvin and Della shared over 40 years of marriage before Mel's passing.

Della worked hard, played hard and prayed even harder. She enjoyed flea markets and was known as the "baseball and football card lady". Della gave all she could to her friends and family, if you ever gave something to her she would always give you noodles, peanut brittle or a pie in return. She loved playing cards, selling antiques and baseball cards. She and Mel owned a baseball card shop for many years, when the building sold they just moved everything to their house and set up shop there. Della also worked at the Mini Max for over twenty-six years and Gene's Grocery Store for over six years. Della's greatest loves were her God and family, if you were able to get into her inner circle you knew you were loved.

Della is survived by three sons, Larry and Edward Thompson, both of Smith Center, Terry Hansen and wife Patti of Joplin, MO; a daughter, Debra Cotton of Lawrence, KS; a brother, Victor Mullin of La Mirada, CA; a sister, Shirley Vance and husband Vernon of Rexford, KS; and numerous grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Mel.

A Celebration of Della's life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at the All Faiths Funeral Chapel, Smith Center, with Pastor Randy Hill officiating. Visitation will be held from 8:00 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral chapel. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Fund in care of the funeral chapel.
