Rex Emanuel Sandell, the son of Nitus Emanuel Sandell and Clara (Mallory) Sandell, was born May 18, 1918 at Union Township, Republic, Co, KS and passed away on January 12, 2013 at the Belleville Health Care Center, Belleville, KS at the age of 94, years, 7 months, and 24 days.
Rex grew up in rural Republic County and attended the local public schools. On March 2, 1947, he was united in marriage to Mae Berggren and to the union was born: Steven, Garold, and Richard. The couple made their home in the Republic, KS area for many years. Rex farmed 40 years in the Republic and Scandia, KS area until his retirement.
He was a member of the Republic United Methodist Church where he was a Church Trustee for 27 years. Rex also was a former member of Farm Bureau, and served on the School Board of District 24 and 61 for several years. Rex also enjoyed fishing and gardening through the years.
Rex was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mae Sandell in 2012, a sister Adelene Hodges, and brothers: Harlan, Waldren (Pete), and Pat Sandell.
He is survived by three sons: Steven Sandell and wife Evelyn of Wichita, KS; Garold "Gary" Sandell and wife Ilene of Topeka, KS; and Richard Sandell and wife Nancy of Republic, KS; one sister Ruth Rizek and husband Don of Munden, KS; six grandchildren, and one great grandchild;
Sister-in-laws: Dorothy Sandell of Scandia, KS and Emma Berggren of Belleville, KS, nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at the Republic United Methodist Church, Republic, KS with Pastor Roger Walls, officiating.
Interment will be at the Prairie Rose Cemetery, rural Republic, KS.
Visitation will be from One PM until Nine PM on Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Republic United Methodist Church.
