Merlin Andrew (Pumpkin)Streber of Hebron, NE the son of William and Katharine (Sneller) Streber was born May 5, 1948 in Paonia, CO. He departed this life Tuesday February 12, 2013 at Blue Valley Lutheran Care Home in Hebron at the age of 64 years.

He grew up and attended Paonia grade school and Glenwood Springs High School in Colorado.

Pumpkin was a blacksmith and worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad at the Havelock Shops in Lincoln, NE for 20 years which eventually brought him to Nebraska where he met Betty.

Merlin married Betty Hergott February 14, 1987 on Valentine's Day at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hebron. They lived in Lincoln for about 10 years before moving to Hebron so they could be near her family.

Merlin was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hebron and a member of the third degree Knights of Columbus Council 1904.

Pumpkin was an Oklahoma Sooners fan, always teasing us about our Huskers. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, riding his bike, collecting pens and caps, visiting with people and especially following his nieces and nephews activities.

He is preceded in death by his parents, infant twin sister Marilyn, and father-in-law Paul Hergott.

He is survived by his wife Betty of Hebron, NE, sister Shirley Streber of Texas, mother-in-law Pat Hergott of Hebron, nieces, nephews and friends.

The Mass of the Christian Burial will be Monday February 18, 2013 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hebron, NE at 10:30 am. Officiant Father Rudy Oborny, organist Carlece Kenner, cantor Robin Timmerman, acolyte Francis Rauner Jr., lector Joe Hergott, rosary service will be Sunday 7 pm at the church. No visitation, cremation. Inurnment Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Hebron. Condolences may be left at www.krollfh.com. Memorials and mass offerings in lieu of flowers in care of family.
