Gayle L. Hanel

Gayle Lucille Hanel, the daughter of George Hanel and Helen (Chermak) Hanel, was born Dec. 13, 1919 at rural Munden, KS and passed away on February 25, 2013 at Republic County-Long Term Care at the age of 93 years, 2 months, and 12 days.
Gayle grew up in rural Munden, KS attending Tabor Grade School and Munden High School, graduating in 1938. After the death of her parents, Gayle made her home with her sisters: Elsie Popelka and Mollie Baxa. In her early years, she was a member of the Methodist Church and on March 8, 1994, she became a member of St. Edward's Catholic Church, Belleville, KS.
Gayle liked to do embroidery and hand work. She assisted with cooking and household duties through the years. She also enjoyed music and liked to sing.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers: Clarence and Leonard, two sisters: Elsie Popelka and Mollie Baxa, and a nephew: Vincent George Baxa.
Gayle is survived by three nephews: LaVerne Hanel, of Belleville, KS, Eugene Hanel of Belleville, KS and Raymond Baxa of Cuba, KS; five nieces: Evelyn Mosier of Centennial, CO, Grace Thompson of Agenda, KS, Helen Boman of Hebron, NE, Carolyn Packer of Belleville, KS and Marcia Hansen of Belleville, KS; numerous great and great great nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at TEN AM, Friday, March 1, 2013 at St. Edward's Catholic Church, Belleville, KS with Fr. Barry Brinkman and Fr. George Kalampatt, celebrants.
Interment will follow at the Tabor Cemetery, rural Munden, KS.
A Vigil/Rosary service will be held at 7:00 PM Thursday at the Bachelor-Surber Memorial Chapel.
Friends may call from One PM until Nine PM on Wednesday and from 9AM until 9PM on Thursday at the funeral home.
