Lawrence LeRoy Williams,

Lawrence LeRoy Williams, the son of Wilbur and Hazel (Johnston) Williams, was born on December 10, 1934 on a farm east of Nelson, Nebraska. He passed away May 31, 2013 at Bryan LGH Medical Center West, Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 78 years, 5 months, 21 days.

Lawrence was baptized and confirmed at the United Methodist Church in Nelson, Nebraska. He attended school at Nelson and graduated from Nelson High School, serving as president of the FFA and was active in sports for three years. In September of 1957 he was inducted into the United States Army at Fort Carson, Colorado. He was stationed in Germany, serving during the Korean War and then in September of 1959 transferred to the Army Signal Corps and was honorably discharged on August 31, 1963.

On November 8, 1959, Lawrence was united in marriage to Maxine Joan Bailey, of rural Guide Rock, Nebraska at the Guide Rock Methodist Church. This union was blessed with three children. Lawrence and Maxine raised cattle and farmed in the Nelson area. At the time of his death he was still engaged in farming. Lawrence and Maxine celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on November 8, 2009. Lawrence drove a school bus for the Nelson Public Schools from 1972 to 1978.

He was preceded in death by his parents, stillborn son Gary, brother and sister-in-law Virgil and Nina Williams.

He is survived by his wife Maxine of Superior, Nebraska; sons Stephen and wife Brenda of Green, Kansas and Donald and wife Kandy of Nelson, Nebraska; sister Willa McCartney and husband Kent of Edgar, Nebraska; two granddaughters, Bailey and Haley Williams of Nelson, and two step granddaughters, Lindsay "Smith" Osborne and husband Chad of Wamego, Kansas and Amanda "Smith" Vrbas and husband Tyson of Manhattan, Kansas; three step-great-grandchildren, Tyler, Kaycee and Lucas Vrbas. Lawrence also leaves behind many other relatives and a host of dear friends.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at 10:30 AM from the United Methodist Church in Superior, Nebraska with Rev. Dr. Jocelyn Tupper officiating.

Music was "In the Garden" and "When The Roll Is Called Up Yonder" with Evelyn Thompson as soloist and Carlita Price as organist and accompanist.

Visitation was held on Sunday from 2:00 - 8:00 PM and Monday from 9:00 AM - 7:00 PM from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Danny Jacobitz, Randy Williams, Ron Meyer, Tyson Vrbas, Dwayne McGinnis and Don Jelinek. Honorary Pallbearers were Leo Blackstone, Don Blackstone, Doug McCartney, Kent McCartney and Lawrence's granddaughters, Bailey and Haley Williams, Lindsay Osbourne and Amanda Vrbas.

Interment with full military honors was in the Guide Rock Cemetery at Guide Rock, Nebraska.
