LAST CHANCE!
Adopt a Classroom

The Beloit Business Committee (BBC) is still accepting Beloit area businesses to "adopt" an elementary classroom at BES or St. Johns. The BBC will work with the area businesses to match a business with a classroom. The teachers are making their "needs list" of 10-12 items that can purchased locally. With budget cuts, the hope is to help each teacher and classroom fill a void. Now we need your help to "adopt" an elementary classroom to fill the lists. For more information you can contact Janet Remus, Super 8, at 738-8592.

Mitchell County Historical Society

Kyle Peterson will give a presentation about early plate photography in conjunction with the Mitchell County Museum Fair display "What Eva Saw."
A look at early day Mitchell County through the eyes of an amateur woman photographer, who used a glass plate camera.
Saturday, August 10th At 5pm in the Quonset building.

Also taking place will be Farm Family in Kansas, Traveling Resource Trunk.
You will be able to examine life on a Kansas farm in the late 1800s with this trunk.  Activities in the trunk explore farm work, the impact of the environment on farming in Kansas, and the entertainment and recreation enjoyed by Kansas farm families.  Numerous tools and photographs help students learn about this important part of Kansas history as they are introduced to life before electricity, automobiles, and the widespread use of commercially processed food.
You can explore the role of men, women and children on the farm through the use of primary sources and hands-on exploration.  Letters, journal entries and photographs introduce you to real Kansas settlers.  Objects in the trunk provide an opportunity to peel an apple, pit a cherry, grind coffee, and more.  Power point presentations show how to churn butter and husk corn.
This will take place each night from 5pm-9pm in the Quonset building.
