Cawker City Picnic

The Cawker City Picnic/Twin-A-Thon will be held August 16, 17 & 18. The weekend begins Friday at 5pm when registration begins for the 10th Annual Cook-off. Smokers can be fired up at 7pm. Judging begins at noon on Saturday with the Grand Champion and other winners announced at 3pm. For more information, rules and registration contact the Clovers at 781-4470.

The Twine-A-Thon begins Friday at 7pm at the Ball of Twin. Wrap twine, win prizes and listen to Ronda Roach sing.

Saturday at 8am is registration for Poker "Twine" run at JayBird's Chicken. The run starts at 9am. Contact Bob Burda for more information at 781-4338.

Horseshoe Tournament registration begins at 8am in the City Park.

The food stand opens at 5pm with the parade starting at 6:30pm

Sunday's Golf Tournament will be held at Lakeside Park Golf Course. Contact Terry Cunningham or Larry Conyac at the Farmers & Merchants Bank for information. Everyone is welcome to enter.

"Home Run"

          The movie "Home Run" will be shown free for the community at the First Christian Church, 321 N. Mill St., Beloit, KS at 7:00 pm on Saturday, August 17, 2013. Popcorn, bottled water and bottle soda pop will be supplied free for all who attend. Free childcare will be available during the movie for ages 0-2 in the baby nursery and from ages 2-5 in the toddler nursery.
          "Home Run" reminds us of the power of forgiveness, the richness of redemption, and the wisdom of trusting God to revive us." This quote by Max Lucado communicates the themes and focus of this movie.
The movie "Home Run" is the dramatic story of a professional baseball player who struggles with an addiction as he seeks help to redirect his life. The story communicates hope that freedom is possible even in the midst of challenging situations. The movie clearly relates the benefits of Celebrate Recovery in the lives of those it serves.
The movie is rated PG-13 and it is 113 minutes in length.

3rd Annual LEAP Event

Leadership Mitchell County Alumni, in connection with the City of Beloit, is hosting the 3rd Annual LEAP Event on Wednesday, September 25th at the Down Under Ballroom.  Last year's LEAP (Leadership Energy in Action Programs) event featured Marci Penner of the Kansas Sampler Foundation. The LEAP committee is changing things up this year and is bringing Angie Baur from Public Square Communities, Inc. to Beloit for an event titled "Table Talk: A Community Conversation." Through Public Square Communities, Angie specializes in engaging community leaders to foster thriving communities. Discussion will focus on using the assets of North Central Kansas to make each one of our communities a better place. Angie, who is also a professional life coach, will speak and facilitate discussion among those attending about how to improve life in North Central Kansas on a personal and community level. The LEAP committee is very excited about this year's event.  The event will begin with a social hour at 6:00 p.m. followed by a meal at 7:00 p.m., and will conclude with Angie's presentation. Grand Opening/Ribbon Cutting

The Grand Opening/Ribbon Cutting for Gray Drug & Fountain took place on Wednesday, August 14th at 10:30am.

Solomon Valley Car Show

The 19th Annual Solomon Valley Car Show, presented by the Eagles Aerie #3507, will take place on Saturday, September 21st in Downtown Beloit.
Entry fees: $20 at the gate, pre-Entry $15, 2 or more entries by same car owner $10 each. Pre-entry deadline is September 15th. Send entry forms to:

Chautauqua Pool Hours

Just a reminder the pool will be open from 1pm-7pm August 17th, August 18th, August 24th & 25th. The pool will close for the season at 7pm on the 25th.
Thanks to the Parks & Rec department, managers and lifeguards for a great season of swimming and fun!
