Louis Ray Havel

Louis Ray Havel, the son of Ben L. Havel and Barbara M. (Vesely) Havel, was born February 15, 1941 at Belleville, KS and passed away on October 6, 2013 at Cuba, KS at the age of 72 years, 7 months, and 21 days.
Louis Ray grew up on the family farm in rural Cuba, KS, where he lived his entire lifetime. He received his early education at the Kunkel Rural School and later graduated from Cuba High School in 1959.
Louis Ray farmed his entire lifetime. He also was co-owner of Havel's Garden in Cuba, KS for 14 years.
On June 24, 1973, he was united in marriage to Dawn M. Naiman and to this union was born: Grant, Garth, and Garet.
Louis Ray was a school board member from 1993 until 1995. He was the Poultry Leader-Merry Meadowlarks 4-H Club for 26 years and was the Poultry Superintendent at the NCK Free Fair for 25 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Ben and Barbara Havel, and two brothers: Benton Havel and Dennis Havel.
Louis Ray is survived by his wife, Dawn M. Havel of Cuba, KS; three sons, Grant L. (Tish) Havel of Bird City, KS, Garth B. (Amy) Havel of Cuba, KS and Garet M. (Elsa) Havel of Ulysses, KS; one sister Karen (Fred) Baxa of Cuba, KS;
7 grandchildren: Frank Havel, Bob Havel, Kinley Havel, Kyler Havel, Lily Havel, Bria Havel, and Zane Havel; nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Thursday, October 10, 2013 at the Cuba Presbyterian Church, Cuba, KS with Mr. Henry Strnad, officiating.
Interment will be at the National Bohemian (Kopsa) Cemetery, rural Cuba, KS.
Visitation will be from One PM until Nine PM on Tuesday, and from Nine AM until Nine PM on Wednesday at the Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home where they will receive friends from 6 PM until 8 PM.
Memorials are suggested to the Renovation of the Poultry Barn at the NCK Free Fair.
