Joyce C. Larson

Joyce Camille Larson, the daughter of Carl Leland "Turk" Johnson and Thyra Irene Cunningham Johnson, was born April 26, 1925 at Belleville, KS and passed away on October 19, 2013 at Country Place Home Plus of Scandia, KS at the age of 88 years, 5 months, and 23 days.
Joyce spent her early years in Eugene, Oregon, returning to the area where she attended the rural country schools of Republic County, graduating from Belleville High School in 1942. She attended Kansas University for a time and then volunteered and joined the U. S. Navy and served briefly at the end of W. W. II. After her honorable discharge, she returned and worked as a telephone operator and in the business office for the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in Belleville and in Concordia for 26 years until her retirement.
In 1947, she was united in marriage to Ralph W. Larson and to this union was born Marilyn and Lou Anne. The couple made their home in Scandia.
She was a member of the Amana Lutheran Church, past president of the Sorosis Club, member of the Scandia Library Board, the Telephone Pioneers, the
Good Sam Camper Club, and the Escapees Camping Club.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ralph in 2001, son-in-law, Dr. Steven Coil and grandson Brendan Coil, great grandson Caden Dunstan, and brother, Perry C. Johnson.
Joyce is survived by two daughters: Marilyn (Ellis) Dunstan of Scandia, KS and Lou Anne (Larry) Snavely of Minneapolis, KS; two sisters: JoAnn Klemmer of Topeka, KS and Doris Salley of Ocean Park, Washington; three grandchildren: Aaron (Jana) Coil, Kristen Coil (Jeremy) Mooer, and Melanie Snavely (Tyler) McDuffee; four step grandchildren: Nanette (David) Carpenter, Elwin (Janie) Dunstan, Earl (Crystal) Dunstan, and Jeremy Snavely; 11 great grandchildren, other relatives, and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Thursday, October 24, 2013 at the Amana Lutheran Church, Scandia, KS with Pastor Delvin Strecker, officiating.
Interment will be at the Lutheran Cemetery, Scandia, KS.
Visitation will be from 9 AM until 9 PM on Wednesday at the Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home, Scandia, KS where the family will receive friends from 6PM until 8 PM on Wednesday.
Memorials are suggested to Country Place Home Plus of Scandia or the Amana Lutheran Church.
