Irena Fogelberg

Irena Mae Fogelberg was born at Norway, KS in December, 1920, the daughter of Grant and Lottie (Fike) Skidmore. She passed away on November 10, 2013 at Republic County Hospital at the age of 92 years, around one month shy of her 93rd birthday.

Irena graduated from Scandia High School in 1939.

She was united in marriage to Richard Fogelberg April 13, 1939. To this union was born four children: Carol, Harvey, Larry and Dianne. They were married for over 70 years.

She was baptized and a member of the Methodist Church of Scandia, KS.

She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was not only a devoted and loving wife to Richard, but was also his partner in their farming and cattle business. She was proud of her children and grandchildren.

She enjoyed working in church. Also did much hand work of crewel embroidery and quilts. Her pride and joy was her children's part in sports, music, 4-H, and FFA. She enjoyed bus tours and saw 40 of the 50 states. She belonged to the women's society of the Methodist Church, president of YWCA of Scandia, President of Sorosis study club and a bridge club.

Preceding her in death was her father Grant Skidmore and mother Lottie Fike Skidmore Berggren, her husband Richard in 2009, her sister Pauline Bureman, her sons Larry and Harvey Fogelberg and two grandchildren, Rebecca Homan and Jeffery Fogelberg.

Surviving her are her daughters Carol Homan and Dianne Fogelberg. Nine grandchildren: Kathy (Billy) Holland, Deborah Homan, David Homan and Tametha Knight children of Carol; Jason, Jennifer and Jill Fogelberg children of Harvey, Suzzanne Legg and Stacie Fogelberg children of Larry. Ten great grandchildren: Melissa and Jeremy children of Kathy (Dan) Peck, and Aubrey and Chloe Gelperin children of Debbie, Gene and Anna children of David (Tammy) Homan, Taylor and Peyton children of Suzie (Kevin) Legg, Rainee and Holden children of Stacie Fogelberg. Also, three nephews Mark, Bruce and Bob children of Pauline Bureman.

Funeral services will be held at the Scandia United Methodist Church Scandia, KS on November 15, 2013 at 10:00 AM with Reverend Kathy Aeillo officiating. A luncheon will follow for friends and family. Interment will be at Poplar Grove Cemetery Scandia.

Visitation will be from One PM to Nine PM on Thursday at the Scandia Funeral Home. Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home, Scandia, KS is in charge of the arrangements.
