Robert L. Gunn, son of Ralph Gunn Sr. and Verda (Helmer) Gunn was born February 13, 1936 at rural Courtland, Kansas and passed away on December 28, 2013 at Wichita, Kansas at the age of 77 years, 10 months and 15 days.
Robert attended Stover Country School and graduated from Belleville High School in 1953. He served with the U.S. Marine Corps, serving in Japan. He was united in marriage to Shirley Smith on August 21, 1954 at Oxnard, CA., and to this union two children were born, Belinda and James.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Republic, KS, American Legion Post No 232 of Republic, KS, Rural Fire Department No 9.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph Gunn Sr and Verda Gunn, son, James L. Gunn, two brothers, Charles Gunn, Ralph Gunn Jr. one sister, Marilynn Gunn Birrell.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Gunn of Republic, KS, one daughter, Belinda (Jake) Myers of Wichita, KS, two grandsons, Jason (Melissa) Spitler of Topeka, KS, Clinton (Whitney) Spitler of Falun, KS, five great grandchildren, Nevaeh, Trista, Cole, Hudson, Luke, one brother, Merrill (Pauline) Gunn of Placerville, CA, one sister, Connie (Bill) Smith of Republic, KS, sister in law, Chick Gunn of Belleville, KS, brother in law, Darrell Birrell of Republic, KS, nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be held Ten Thirty AM, Thursday, January 2, 2014, United Methodist Church, Republic, KS, conducted by, Pastor Roger Walls.
Military rites by the United States Marine Corps Detail and American Legion Post No 232.
Cremation will follow the service with Private Family Inurnment at a later date.
