The Trojan track teams traveled to Phillipsburg to compete in the regional meet on Friday, May 23. Regional track meets are made up of 16 teams. The top 4 place finishers in each event qualify to compete at the state meet held at Cessna Stadium in Wichita on May 30 and May 31. The weather was ideal for a track meet, with the temperature in the 70’s and a light wind.

 

The lady Trojans competed very well, qualifying 7 for the state meet and bringing home 10 medals (3 - gold, 6 - silver, 0 - bronze, and 1 - 4th) and finished 4th as a team with 60 points. Hesston won the meet with 69 points, Hutch Trinity was second with 66 points, and Marion was third with 63 points.

 

First place finishers for Beloit were Kaley Broeckelman in the 100m hurdles in 15.17 and the 300m hurdles in a new school record time of 46.05, and Remi Behrends in the high jump at 5’2”.

 

Second place finishers were Kaley Broeckelman in the high jump at 5’0”, Madison Hewitt in the pole vault at 10’0”, and the 4X100m relay team of Karissa Winkel, Remi Behrends, Alexis Budke, and Kaley Broeckelman in 50.26.

 

The fourth place finisher was Remi Behrends in the 100m dash in 13.38.

 

The Trojan boys had an outstanding day, qualifying 15 for the state meet and bringing home 23 medals (11-gold, 2-silver, 5-bronze, 5-4th) and the regional title with 108 points. Phillipsburg was second with 94 points and Hesston was third with 65 points.

 

First place finishers for Beloit were Alex Conn in the 1600m run in 4:33.31 and the 800m run in 1:57.87, Bryce Black in the shot put at 53’9.5”, the 4X800m relay team of Colson Reames, Carter Wessling, Anthony Nunez, and Alex Conn in 8:23.69, and the 4X400m relay team of RJ Jackson, Gage DeGarmo, Colson Reames, and Tanner Niemczyk in 3:29.58.

 

Second place finishers were Alex Conn in the 3200m run in 10:19.41 and Jace Adams in the 300m hurdles in 40.51.

 

Third place finishers were Tanner Niemczyk in the 400m dash in 51.57, RJ Jackson in the shot put at 48’8.75”, Payton Vetter in the high jump at 5’10”, Daniel Herndon in the javelin at 171’9”, and Brady Budke in the triple jump at 42’10.25”.

 

Fourth place finishers were Dustin Reiter in the javelin at 165’2” and the 4X100m relay team of Jace Adams, Tanner Niemczyk, Colson Reames, and Payton Vetter in 45.32.

 

Coach Isbell said, “I’m proud of all of the kids. They competed very well and stepped up when they needed to. They have represented our school well and it should be an exciting couple of days in Wichita.”

 

The Trojans will travel to Cessna Stadium in Wichita on Friday and Saturday, May 30 and 31 to compete in the state meet.
