Robert Schiermeyer, Age 76

Robert Duane Schiermeyer, the son of Fred and Elsie (Grummert) Schiermeyer, was born on February 6, 1938 on a farm north and west of Superior, Nebraska. He passed away on December 17, 2014 at the Superior Good Samaritan Society after a long battle with Parkinson's at the age of 76 years, 10 months, 11 days.

Robert was the youngest of five children; he attended Fairview School and graduated from Nelson High School with the class of 1956. He was a life long member of the Salem Lutheran Church north of Superior. He was inducted in the Mankato National Guard in September of 1961. Bob farmed his entire life on the family farm north of Superior. He raised hogs and cattle and grew crops until his Parkinson disease took over in 1991.

He was united in marriage to Sharon Soukop on September 2, 1962 and this union was blessed with three sons, Curtis, Allen and Brian. Together they raised their family on the farm north of Superior and Sharon still resides there. He served as a council member and past treasurer and was a Luther League sponsor. He was involved with 4-H and was a former leader. He served many years on the rural fireman's board taking care of the books. He enjoyed bowling, square dancing and was an avid card player. For many years he enjoyed and attended the sporting events of his children and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Elsie Schiermeyer, sister Eleanor, brother Glen and grandson Kalen Lee.

He is survived by his wife Sharon of the home, sons, Curtis and Deb and Allen and Kelly all of Nelson, Nebraska and Brian and Julie of St. Joseph, Missouri. Six grandchildren, Kendra and Eric Schiermeyer of Nelson, Nebraska, Brandon and Collin Schiermeyer of St. Joseph, Missouri, Amy McGee and Tony Jetensky of Nelson, Nebraska. Four great-grandchildren; Makenna, Aiden and Trevin McGee of Superior, Nebraska and Riley Pedersen of Hastings, Nebraska. He is also survived by a sister, Fern Anderson of Lake Crystal, Minnesota, brother Verlin and wife Lara of Simi Valley, California, sister-in-law, Arlet Schiermeyer of Superior, brother and sister in laws, Adolph and Connie Laluk and Jerry and Sue Soukop, along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
