Mitchell County Hospital Health Systems Board Meeting

Monday, March 28, 2016

By Terry Bailey

The Mitchell County Hospital Board conducted its monthly meeting Monday afternoon, March 28th.

Board president Curt Frazier was present to conduct the proceedings.

First on the order of business was an update of approved signers on Hospital credit cards. A list of those names to be taken off the list and those to be added was discussed. Frazier said Tammy Pruitt would be available to assist with the process of those to be added and deleted.

Stephanie Simmons, Executive Director of the the Solomon Valley Health Foundation gave the Board and update on her recent activities. She said the utilization of the Perdue House by families of hospital patients has shown steady growth since it opened about a year ago. Simmons said there was someone in the house every week or once every two weeks. Since opening there have been 75 families stay in the house amounting to 165 person nights.

The Foudation will be hosting a visit by a nationally known speaker, Jim Sutton, on June 6th, 7th, and 8th. He will discuss significant aspects of the community that affect the health of the citizens.. On June 7th he will conduct a walking audit looking for positive and negative aspects that contribute or detract from community wellness.

March 31st will be “Doctor Day” at the Hospital. Activities will be taking place throughout the day to show appreciation to the health care providers. The Elementary School sponsored a “Why Doctors are Special” contest so that the students could indicate why they believed doctors were special. There were 365 entries submitted.

Simmons discussed the electronic patient registration process recently adopted. When patients enter the hospital lobby they will enter pertinent health care information into the system. They will then take a seat in the waiting area. They will be notified by a computer display screen when it is their turn to move into the system. Along with the electronic registration is the fingerprint scanner used to monitor patient confidentiality of information.

A very busy Simmons finished with a discussion of an App for the Blood Drive as well as an interface which allows hospital patron the opportunity to download their health records on their cell phones via the health portal.

Next was a discussion of the upcoming Strategic Planning Session. All the details have not been finalized at this time but the activity should be very helpful in identifying areas most in need of focus and attention. One of the goals is to create a “living and breathing” document that can grow and change as needs dictate.

The Doctor’s Recruitment Program is finalizing the details of the employment package. Dr. Crumbaker and Dr. Banniger should join the staff sometime in the fall.

The Hospital Auxillary will be observing their 50th anniversary with a reception in the South Dining Hall on May 1st from 2 to 4 p.m. Having the Auxillary helping and assiting the operation of the Hoptial for 50 years is considered a significant achievement. Perhaps even more significant is the fact the three of the original Auxillary members who began assisting 50 years ago are still active helping members of the Auxillary at the current time. Quite an achievement.
