Sister Veronica Ann, Age 76

Sister Veronica Ann Baxa died November 15 at Salina Regional Health Center in Salina, KS. She was 76 years old and a Sister of St. Joseph for 57 years. She was born in Concordia, KS, on November 12, 1941 to Fred and Lottie Oborny Baxa, the oldest of six children, and was baptized Veronica Ann. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph, Concordia, KS, on September 8, 1959. On March 18, 1960, Veronica Ann received the habit of the Sisters of St. Joseph and was given the name Sister Mary Lawrence, later returning to her baptismal name. She pronounced first vows on March 19, 1961 and final vows on March 19, 1966. Sister Veronica Ann served the community doing various charges at the Motherhouse in Concordia, KS for 23 years. She left the Motherhouse in 1988 to go to Clyde, KS to serve in the St. John the Baptist Parish. In 1991 Sister Veronica Ann moved to Minneapolis where she served in the Immaculate Conception Parish until 2012 when she retired to the Motherhouse.

Sister Veronica Ann was preceded in death by her parents and one brother. She is survived by brothers, Fred of Cuba, KS, Larry, of Belleville, KS and two sisters, Ella Rudolph of Belleville, KS and Marvine Oborny of Bellwood, NE.

A Bible Vigil Service will be held November 17 at 7:00 p.m. in the Nazareth Motherhouse Chapel with Sister Eulalia Kloeker giving the eulogy written by Sister Janet Lander. The Mass of Christian Burial will be November 18 at 10:30 a.m. in the Motherhouse Chapel with Fr. Paul O'Borny and Fr. Henry Baxa presiding. The burial will be in the Nazareth Motherhouse Cemetery.
