Sharon M. Jones, age 77, of Concordia, Kansas, passed away on Friday, April 5, 2024 at Presbyterian Manor in Salina, Kansas. She was born on March 12, 1947 in Winfield, Kansas, to Rev. Ralph J. and Violet A. (Swenson) Jones.
Sharon graduated from Wichita West High School and then attended Southwestern College in Winfield for two years in Pre-Nursing. She transferred to the University of Kansas of Nursing, graduating with an R.N. degree in 1970. She attended graduate school at the University of Utah earning a Master of Science degree in Midwifery. She completed her clinical midwifery training serving Native Americans on an Indian reservation in Shiprock, New Mexico. Upon receiving her certification as a Nurse Midwife, she moved to Chicago, joining the Cook County Hospital midwifery faculty, teaching midwifery to graduate nursing students. Subsequently, she moved to Georgia, joining the faculty at Emory University, continuing her midwifery teaching career along with her clinical practice. Later, she moved to a private obstetrical group practice in Gainesville, Georgia. Finally, she worked in general nursing until she retired. Over the course of her career, she delivered over 3,500 babies. She was a member of the American College of Nurse-Midwives. She relocated to Concordia, Kansas, to be closer to family.
She is survived by her siblings; brother, Ronald Jones (Wendy), Jamestown, Kansas; sister, Mary Jones, MD, Nashville, Tennessee, and brother, Wesley Jones, Nashville, Tennessee; great niece and nephew, Kimberly Wright (David) and Ryan Jones (Lisa); and great nephews, Shane and Evan Wright and Finn and Sawyer Jones.
She was preceded by her parents and grandparents.
It was Sharon's wishes to be cremated and a memorial graveside service will be held at 11 am Friday, April 12, 2024 at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia, Kansas, with Pastor Sandra Jellison-Knock officiating.
Friends may sign the register book from 1 pm to 5 pm Thursday, April 11, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the American College of Nurse-Midwives Foundation (www.acnmf.org) or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (www.stjude.org) in care of the funeral home.
