Laura M. Slagle, 89, of Belleville, Kansas, passed away on April 16, 2024 at the Republic County Hospital-ISB. She was born August 1, 1934 to Joe and Emma (McDowell) Chopp on a farm at Narka, Kansas.
She graduated from Narka High School and then went to work for the First National Bank in Belleville. Growing up, she loved to cook and sew. She and her mother taught cooking and sewing lessons in 4-H. She also loved to do crafts, making leather belts and billfolds, various wooden items and painting the many wooden cars Don made.
Laura was united in marriage to Donald Slagle on March 12, 1955 and to this union was born, Tim and Jim. Laura worked at J.C. Penney, the Police Department, Casey's and Belleville Lumber where Don worked for 36 years. They both retired from there. Laura was a member of the Belleville Wesleyan Church for many years.
Laura was preceded in death by her husband, Don Slagle; parents, Joe and Emma Chopp; brother, Kenneth Chopp; sister, Shirley Slagle and son, Tim Slagle.
Laura is survived by one son, Jim (Kim) Slagle of Sheridan, Wyoming; grandsons, Joe (Ashley) Slagle, Nick Slagle and Ryan Slagle; one great-grandson and two great-granddaughters; special friends, niece, Sharon Larsen, Jentry McGregor, and Rachel Schulz and sons; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Monday, April 22, 2024 at the Wesleyan Church, Belleville, Kansas, with Pastor Mark McGregor officiating.
Interment will follow at the Belleville Cemetery, Belleville, Kansas.
Friends may call from 1 PM until 6 PM on Sunday, April 21, at the Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home, Belleville, Kansas.
