Get Your Banquet Tickets
February 1st is the deadline to get tickets to the annual Beloit Chamber of Commerce Banquet. Tickets are $25 each and include a wonderful meal and program. The Chamber of Commerce will recognize new board members for 2012; the Distinguished Service Award will be presented as well as the Quarterly Image Award.
Beloit Police Chief Brenon Odle will be the guest speaker.
The Banquet will be February 4th at the Beloit Country Club. Social Hour will begin at 5 PM and the Banquet will begin at 6 PM. Tickets are $25 each. To get your tickets you can call the Chamber at 738-2717 and/or come by the office at 123 N. Mill Street.
Ackerman Supply Celebrates 50
Ackerman Supply is celebrating 50 years in business. Earlier this month Dick Ackerman was presented with the Estwing Gold Hammer Award recognizing his 50 years of service in the hardware industry. It is the most prestigious award of its type.
Ackerman Supply was once located on Court Street before moving to Highway 24 in 1973.
The family owned business continues to serve our community today and plans to continue that service for many, many years.
Historical Society Annual Meeting
The Mitchell County Historical Society Annual Meeting will be held Sunday, January 29th at the museum annex (former American Legion Building) on Highway 14. The meeting will begin at 2:00 PM. The future of the Gabel Farm property will be discussed at this meeting.
Health & Wellness Team Visit
A team of experts will be assessing the Health and Wellness of our community next month. Kevin Bomhoff, Wichita State University, and Vicky James, Healthy Kids Challenge, will be visiting Beloit from 10 am-2 pm on February 2nd to learn more about Beloit and what it has to offer as a community in terms of health and wellness, and to also do training with the Beloit Healthy Community Design Team (HCDT). The two representatives are the technical assistance resources assigned to Beloit for a $25,000 planning grant that the HCDT recently received from the Kansas Health Foundation. This grant is one of three grants that HCDT has received recently for the community. The two others are Safe Routes to School and WorkWellKS. There will be another $25,000 grant the group will apply for to help with implementation of their ideas after the one year planning grant is finished. The HCDT may be stopping by various businesses in the community on February 2.
Unemployment Figures Continue Decrease
Unemployment figures continue to improve in Mitchell County and the surrounding area. According to the Kansas Department of Labor unemployment in Mitchell County in December was down to 3.1 percent. That compares to 3.9 percent in Cloud County, 3.7 percent in Jewell County; 5.5 in Ottawa County; 4.2 in Lincoln County and a statewide average of 5.9 percent.
The unemployment rate of 3.1 percent in Mitchell County in December is down from 3.5 percent in November and 4.7 percent in December of 2010.
Blood Drive January 30 & 31
The American Red Cross Community Blood Drive will be Monday January 30th from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Tuesday, January 31st from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The drive will be held at the North Central Kansas Technical College Gymnasium. For more information call toll free to 1-800-733-2767.
